The Sales Engineering Department is responsible for developing the most cost effective engineering solutions to meet customer requirements.  The responsibility extends to providing the sales team with the cost of the solution and the margins that are attained at the sales recommended price.  The team members in the department need to work closely with the sales department and customers to fully understand the customers requirements and develop a solution to meet those requirements.  Team member also need to liaise with other departments such as engineering, operations and legal to ensure that the solution proposed is deliverable within the cost and timescales proposed.



Responsibilities:
  • Review current open opportunities and ensure sufficient resources are available to address the requirements.
  • Work with the sales team to prioritize opportunities to ensure that key opportunities get focused.
  • Provide monitoring, support and guidance to team members developing solutions.
  • Identify training and knowledge gaps and implement measures to address the gaps.
  • Continuously review current procedures and implement improvements or new procedures to increase the departmental efficiency and speed to turn proposals around.
  • Liaise with other departments to provide support when required.
  • Escalate to senior management when additional resources or support is required but not available, or needs to be prioritized over other projects.
  • Develop and provide metrics to measure the departments performance and highlight where improvements can be made.
  • Provide feedback to the product development team of the solutions customers are requesting that should be developed as standard products.
  • Keep up to date with new technologies and products and ensure the team has awareness of any new technology or service that can be utilized to meet customer requirements.


Knowledge, Skills & Attributes:
  • Ability to lead a team that can support Sales to win business for the company, and ensure that the team has the ability, resources and skills to develop solutions that the company can deliver.
  • Ability to work calmly in a high pressure environment with many competing demands.
  • Ability to impartially evaluate competing requirements and reach a consensus with all players of  how to proceed in the best interest of the company.
  • Ability to work well with other people and other departments to ensure customer requirements are understood and that the company can provide solutions to those requirements.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to the team, to senior management, other departments, the sales team and customers.
  • Understanding of the satellite communications industry, customer networking requirements, solutions, and services that can be provided to meet those requirements.
  • Understanding of the technologies and services provided by the company as well as new or future technologies that may be available.
  • Understanding of the financial analysis to provide feedback to sales and management of project profitability.

    • MS Office Applications
    • Presentations
    • Financial Analysis

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Engineering or Science Degree.
  • 5 plus years in the satellite communications industry.
  • 2 plus years of IP networking experience.
  • Experience managing a team to deliver multiple projects and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Knowledge of iDirect and SCPC network design and link budget analysis a plus.
